The right kind of Vitamin D

There are two types of Vitamin D supplement..

Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) the type we make in our skin
and
Vitamin D2 (Egocalciferol) which is not a natural form for humans. It may not be absorbed as well. I would not take D2.

We want to use Vitamin D, D3 or cholecalciferol which it should say on the back of the bottle.

This vitamin D3 usually comes in two basic forms...

The soft gel with oil such as olive, soy or sunflower oil.
The small hard white tablet

The soft gel in oil is the form to buy due to better absorption. The cost is the same and i believe it yields a better blood level. Vitamin D should be taken with full meals because bile is needed to absorb it properly and this is especially true of the hard white pills of D. If you already have the white pills I would continue taking them with full meals but purchase the softgels of D when you have a chance.

The cod liver oil I do not suggest because it has too much vitamin A in it for the dosage of D needed.

Make certain your vitamin D soft gel contains no Vitamin A. Some brands add Vitamin A to the D and this, in the doses we take in the winter, would give you too much Vitamin A, so no Vitamin A in the soft gel. The amount of A in the multivitamin is fine but should be less then 3000iu.
Here's what you want at the Vitamin Shoppe or at walgreens

Here is a good video link explaining the importance of Vitamin D.. from a doctor to doctors.. it's about an hour long and well worth the time to watch.
